Distressed Student Response Protocol

The UCSB Distressed Student Response Protocol is a resource for the campus community on how to recognize and respond to students who may be experiencing emotional, behavioral, or personal distress.

The document outlines common warning signs of distress, offers guidance on how to approach and support students in a safe and respectful way, and provides best practices for having conversations about seeking help. It also includes information on when to consult campus support services and what steps to take in urgent situations, including contacting emergency services if a student poses an immediate risk to themselves or others.
